About the role

The ideal candidate for this role will have extensive experience of designing, developing (Infrastructure as Code), deploying, configuring, securing, managing and monitoring cloud infrastructure on AWS. You'll be building a cloud platform for a green-field bitcoin native bank which will provide all the services necessary to run Noah's Digital Asset Management Platform.

You will be supported by small team of dedicated and experienced technologists that will assist you at every stage of the delivery lifecycle and you will work closely with Front End (UX/UI developers), Cloud Engineering (Site Reliability Engineers) and QA (Software Development Engineers in Test) as well as the founders.

You should be prepared to own and sustain the cloud infrastructure that you will create and you will be responsible for handing over your knowledge and expertise to your team as you progress and ultimately expand your role to take on new challenges.

Domain expertise

Your career will have given you experience in:

  • Full-stack cloud platform development with an emphasis on building secure, scalable serverless, 0-downtime systems using Infrastructure as Code methods and delivering immutable infrastructure.
  • Provisioning the cloud infrastructure to deliver CI / CD / CT pipelines that fully automate release management of both cloud and core platform services, working closely with the owners of those pipelines (engineering and QA).
  • Designing and deploying Identity and Access Management schemes that deliver information security goals: Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability enforce security best practices principles such as Least Privilege Access, Defense in Depth.
  • Creating and enforcing a security regime in line with National Cyber Security Centre cloud security principles.
  • Site Reliability Engineering ensuring service level indicators (SLIs), objectives (SLOs), and agreements (SLAs) are adequately defined and maintained.
  • Optimising cloud infrastructure for cost without compromising the ability of our cloud infrastructure to fulfil business demands.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the architecture and design of Noah's cloud infrastructure and ensuring it is adequately documented to facilitate quality reviews, audits, and successfully convey information to others with an interest in understanding the systems.
  • Implementing the necessary tooling and pipelines to define all cloud infrastructure as code and ensuring the immutability of cloud infrastructure is enforced in a manner that can be attested to in realtime and on demand.
  • Working with stakeholders to define SLIs, SLOs and SLAs and making these metrics available in realtime and on demand for all stakeholders.
  • Creating and enforcing and Identity and Access Management scheme that provides an adequate level of protection for all of Noah's cloud assets based upon the compliance regimes under which Noah will operate.
  • Implementing a support/on-call rota with alerting targeted to the correct individuals across the organisation and managing the run-books, war games and drills to ensure operational readiness to deal with service disruption.
  • Managing the operational engagement with third-parties for audit, security and penetration testing.
  • Actively seeking to overcome obstacles to your work, minimise your dependencies on others and drive your deliveries to completion.
  • Escalating issues that you cannot manage without assistance to the broader team.

Technology Stack

Experience of deploying the following AWS cloud platform services using AWS Cloud Development Kit is highly desirable for the this role and any experience of developing serverless functions is desirable but not essential:

  • AWS Lambda (preferred languages GoLang & TypeScript)
  • AWS Step Functions (Amazon State Language)
  • GraphQL API
  • Amazon DynamoDB
  • Amazon QLDB ledger
  • AWS API Gateway & AppSync
  • Amazon SQS
  • AWS Cognito
  • AWS X-Ray
  • AWS CloudWatch
  • AWS Web Application Firewall
  • Amazon GuardDuty
  • AWS Shield

Knowledge of configuring these components for availability, security, performance, and cost optimisation is highly desirable.

About you

  • You will be conscientious, caring about our customers, our technology, our culture of performance, and of course, our mission
  • Thrive in autonomous, ambiguous roles
  • Strong attention to detail
  • You will be industrious. There will be times when we will have to go the extra mile, work late or over the weekend, but it's not just a matter of working hard, it's about being productive
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of effective strategic planning, timely execution, and delivering results against company goals
  • Excellent language, copywriting, and interpersonal skills
  • Hands-on, data-driven, accountable, and highly motivated, with a team-player attitude
  • Ideally, a self-starting individual with initiative, motivated by the team's success, a sense of fun, and good humor under pressure.
  • In-depth knowledge of crypto is strongly preferred, passion for Bitcoin is a must
  • Ultimately you are going to be an owner in this business, someone we can count on.
